Gogglebox duck sex scene hit by Ofcom complaints

Gogglebox has received more than 200 complaints against Ofcom after airing a sex scene featuring a duck.

Viewers were left unimpressed when the group of armchair critics watched an expectation of feminist anthology series Roar during an episode of the Channel 4 show airing Friday, April 22.

The clip in question is from the episode titled “The Woman Who Was Fed by a Duck”, which, in addition to exploring the issue of domestic violence, featured a scene in which Merritt Wever’s character, Elisa, sexually pleased by a duck.

Ofcom received 68 complaints from April 26 to May 2 about the now infamous Gogglebox scene, in addition to last week’s 149.

During the Roar scenes airing on Gogglebox, Elisa could be seen forming a romantic relationship with a talking duck.

Later in the episode, the bird asked Elisa to lie down on the floor and take off her pants before performing oral sex on her – leaving both the Gogglebox cast and the viewers at home horrified.

While TV star Giles Wood called the scene “the worst thing he’s ever seen on TV”, viewers on Twitter also made their horror known.

One viewer said, “Gogglebox shouldn’t be promoting shows that essentially insinuate bestiality. It was absolutely disgusting and not funny at all.”

Another wrote: “Deeply disturbing is the best way to describe it.”

A third commented: “I just saw a clip of a talking duck having oral sex with a woman on #gogglebox and I’m legitimately traumatized.”

“We watched Gogglebox tonight. This #roar duck program… I’m actually traumatized. I’m really upset,” another concluded.

Speaking on stage herself, Roar actress Merritt Wever told Radio Times: “I hope people think it was worth it.

“I hope people feel it’s being treated with respect.

“I hope people don’t think that because it’s a story told in a container that has a bit of gloss on it, or that comes off a certain way at the start, that it’s not treated seriously because we certainly took it serious.”

Gogglebox airs Fridays on Channel 4 at 9 p.m.
