For those who don’t know, Gangubai Kathiawadi comes from a reputable family of lawyers. However, at the very young age of 16, she ran away from home with her lover, who was then her father’s accountant. It is said that her boyfriend brought her to Mumbai to convince her that he would help her become an actress, but forced her into prostitution by selling her to a brothel in Kamathipura.
